Are you a side, back or stomach sleeper? There are hundreds of sleeping positions, and your mattress plays a huge role in the quality of your sleep. Did you know that there is a bed category for every sleeper? Here’s everything you need to know before buying the best mattress for you:

BACK SLEEPERS

While it’s not the most popular position, sleeping on your back is beneficial for head, neck, and spinal alignment. However, only 8 to 14 percent of the population actually sleep on your back. For those who suffer from acid reflux, snoring, and sleep apnea, sleeping on your back can be harmful and can make these issues worse. An articulating bed that elevates the head and feet or a more elevated pillow can help prevent discomfort. Look for a mattress that will best meet your needs, such as a hybrid or all-foam mattress. These types of mattresses mold more to your body than a more traditional mattress. Beware of products that are too firm or extra firm and don’t follow the curve of your body! These can cause stress, pressure points, and circulation issues. To get the support your body needs, look to the comfortable side of the spectrum, considering your body type and needs.

SIDE SLEEPERS

This sleeping position is the most common and allows the spine to maintain a straight and natural position, and even eliminates snoring by keeping the airways open. Sleeping on the left side is also recommended by doctors because it prevents acid reflux, increases circulation and does not compress internal organs. This position is ideal for people with back pain, hip pain and pregnant women. A softer memory foam mattress adapts to each part of the body and provides the right support. Firm mattresses are not recommended because they do not perfectly envelop the contour of the body and therefore provide less restful sleep.

STOMACH SLEEPERS

The best mattress for stomach sleepers should provide adequate support and relieve pressure points. A medium to firm mattress is best for this type of person, while mattresses that are too soft should be avoided. Also, avoid mattresses that are too hard.
